Haudenosaunee U21 Nations Cup 2008

November 16, 2008 by Onondaga Nation

by Denise Waterman

On October 11 & 12, seven teams from various Haudenosaunee communities came to Onondaga to participate in the second Annual Haudenosaunee Nations Cup.

The games, the excitement between team play, the cheering crowds, and the oh-so beautiful weather made way for another great field lacrosse tournament.  The Haudenosaunee Cup is the only all Native field lacrosse tournament that highlights junior level players from both sides of the border.  This year the teams were very competitive with several upsets and surprises including a semi-final game which came down to the final seconds of play!

The tournament’s primary sponsor is the Iroquois Nationals with the tournament committee consisting of Gewas Schindler, tournament director, Shannon Booth, Missy Rank, and Ansley Jemison.  The tournament committee would like to thank all the volunteers, players, and parents for their endless help and assistance to make this tournament a success.  Everyone is hopeful that next year’s Haudenosaunee Nations Cup Lacrosse Tournament will prove to be as good as or better than this year’s event.  Dane:toh.

2008 Tournament Team Standings:

1st –Six Nations, 2nd Onondaga Porch, 3rd Akwesasne II,  and 4th- Tuscarora

2008 Tournament MVP: Peter Hill – 6 goals in the Championship Game
