Verizon Fios

Verizon FiOS is now available on the Onondaga Nation.  In August, Verizon held their first info/sign up session.  It went extremeley well.  Some people came to ask questions while some signed up for the service (if you do want to sign up, remember to bring your Red ID Card).  Verizon representatives enjoyed their time on the Nation and are excited to return on Friday, September 13, 2024.

Here is some information to decide is FiOs is a good fit for your household.

What is FiOS?: It is a 100% fiber-optic network that provides fast reliable internet.

How do I get FiOS?: You need to contact Verizon to sign up for a monthly plan. 1-800-VERIZON (837-4966)) or www.verizon.com

What is the monthly charge for FiOS?:  Fees for Fios depend on the amount of speed you purchase for your home.  Some homes require more speed if there are multiple streaming devices or multiple “gamers” using FiOS.  The 300Mbps option is the lowest upload and download speed, followed by 500Mbps, and there is even a 1Gbps upload and download speed option.

Do I need a Verizon landline or mobile account before I sign up?:   No.

Will there be a new wire to my home if I sign up?:  Yes. A technician will make an appointment with you to schedule the installation of a fiber drop to your home. The technician will be working both inside and outside of your home.  They may have to drill to get inside your home.

Will there be a router in my home?  Yes.  A technician will be in your home to decide the best place for the FiOS router called a “Optimal Network Terminal” placed in your home to bring the fiber services from the pole to your home.

How many people can use FiOs in my home? That is up to you.  Only individuals who have your password can use your Wi-Fi. You should not have any issues based on the bandwidth available.

Does the Verizon monthly plan include any networks?: It can.  Once you have your home set up with FiOs, you can select any internet provider you wish to purchase (Netflix, Hulu, Max, YouTube, etc.).

Is FiOS better than a Dish?: A major advantage for FiOS is it does not require any equipment on your roof.

Are there any rebates if I sign up for FiOS?:  Verizon Forward discount are available here. Verizon Forward provides excessible, reliable, affordable internet for lower income homes.

What is the timetable to get FiOS?:  Construction is complete and Nation residents are now available for FiOS. You will be able to order FiOS and pick and installation date, either by phone or online.  A technician will be scheduled to come to your home and installation usually takes a couple of hours.

What happens when Verizon comes to my home to set up FiOS?: Please watch Video Here.  Also representative kindly ask to tie up any dogs while installation takes place.

Can I talk to about this to a Verizon representative?:  Representatives from Verizon will be at Tsha’ Thoñ’swatha’ (Onondaga Nation Firehouse) on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 11am to 5pm.  Representatives will be there to answer questions about FiOS and even if you want, can help you sign up for the service.

Do I need my Red Card?: Yes.  This aids the representatives in filling out Nation residency and tax-free service.

What is LifeLine: Lifeline is an assistance program supported by the New York Public Service Commission which households could be eligible for monthly discounts.
